The Best Year Yet!
Michael and I are back from vacation (recap coming soon) and, although it was fun, I have to admit I’m glad to be home. Our flight got in around 7:00 last night, so we grabbed our bags, booked it through customs, and headed straight to the dog-sitter to pick up Tessie. She was happy to be home and we were happy to have her back – I wasn’t expecting to miss her as much as I did. Once we finally made it to our apartment we were too tired to stay up to say goodbye to 2012, which is how we’ve spent the past 3 New Year’s together. I know, pretty boring right?
On the plane ride back from Mexico I did a bit of thinking about how the last year has impacted our lives, and dare I say, it has been the best year yet. Reading my recap of 2011 really puts things into perspective. We started this year in Kansas City hoping to end it in California, and in the back of my mind I was always worried it wouldn’t happen. It did. We made it happen. We packed up our lives, sold all of our furniture, and started down this amazing adventure that I’ll cherish until we’re old and gray. I know that’s cheesy, but it’s really the truth.
Of course, not everything in 2012 was happy and productive, but it was damn near close. Here are my top 5 highlights (listed in no particular order):
Landing a new job as a Product Advocate
(The picture below is from the day of my interview)
Sharing 2012 with the person I love most!!
There are so many other things that are worthy of being called a highlight, but in an effort to keep this post short and sweet I’ll end it there. 2013 will have to be doozy if it wants to knock 2012 off its best year ever throne. It definitely has a chance if we can achieve some of the goals I have in mind. Again, in no particular order, here are my 2013 resolutions:
- Complete a 3 month secondment in Europe with Michael in our company’s Amsterdam office
- Travel, travel, travel (sort of goes with the Europe goal)
- Read more – I want to start a new routine of reading every night before bed
- Complete 1 unassisted pull-up in CrossFit
- Rock out my new job
- Make an effort to discover new Paleo friendly restuarants in San Francisco
- Be more creative in the kitchen
- Make an effort to become more stylish by sprucing up my wordrobe
- Visit Disneyland!
There you have it – most of my hopes and dreams for 2013 all displayed nicely in a bulleted list. There’s no doubt in my mind that Michael and I can make every single one of those things happen, but we all know that life has a funny way of getting in the way sometimes. Here’s to hoping for the best and having as much fun as we can in 2013!
